The original 1910 day dress is constructed out of a white cotton material with a geometric pattern, blue trim along the neck line and cuffs, button detail, one patch pocket, and front button closure. The hem, bodice seam, and shoulders have been repaired.
“The Color Purple” is an adaptation of the 1983 Pulitzer Prize winning book by Alice Walker. The film was directed by Stephen Spielberg and starred Whoppi Goldberg, Oprah Winfrey and Danny Glover. The story focuses on the suppression of African American woman living in the south during the early 1900’s through the 1930’s. The film was nominated for 11 Academy Awards including Best Picture, Best Actress, Best Supporting Actress, and generated $146,292,009 dollars worldwide.
