This pair of red coveralls was worn by the character “Mearth” as portrayed by actor Jonathan Winters in the hit television series “Mork & Mindy,” airing from 1978 to 1982 starring Pam Dawber and the late Robin Williams. The bright red coveralls have a custom-made Ork Prep School patch on the left breast, stand collar, Velcro front closure, elastic cuffs, and red webbed belt with red metal buckle. Internal “58-50-33” hand written on the collar.
Mr. Winters wears the coveralls in season 4 episode 10 “P.S. 2001”, when Mearth attends school on the planet Ork. Mearth, Mork and Mindy’s man-child, lives on earth and travels to Ork for school. Since all the Ork aliens are born as adults and grow younger, attending the Ork Prep School is Mearth’s only chance to attend school people like himself.
All Prep School students wear the same coverall uniforms with the Ork school patch. The size “58-50-33” of the garment confirms that is was made for Mr. Winters. All other background characters were smaller in size.
Jonathan Winters debuted as the character “Mearth” in season 4 episode 4, “Three the Hard Way.” After Mork and Mindy return from their honeymoon, Mork finds out that he is pregnant. He gives birth to a small egg that grows over six feet tall and later hatches “Mearth.”
Jonathan Winters has acted in over 74 productions with some of his most famous roles being in “It’s a Mad, Mad, Mad World” and the voice of “Grandpa Smurf” in the original animated series “The Smurfs.”
