This jumpsuit was worn by Flip Wilson, as Geraldine, for the album cover photo shoot of "Geraldine: Don't Fight the Feeling." The 2-pc velvet jumpsuit is tie-dyed red and white with floor length orange fringe and rhinestones and includes a pair of matching shorts. The base of the fringe has some discoloration from use on a subsequent production.
Cast in the mold of Bill Cosby, Flip Wilson was one of the most popular comics in the late '60s and early '70s, propelled by frequent appearances on The Ed Sullivan Show and talk shows. His stardom raised to the top with the very successful Flip Wilson Show, which often featured the comedian in the guise of Geraldine, a hip, sassy Black woman. "The devil made me do it" became a major catchphrase at the time. His records, like "Geraldine: Don't Fight the Feeling," highlight Wilson during the early years as well as when his show was popular, featuring actual skits and guests from the show. The show earned Wilson a Golden Globe and two Emmy Awards, as well as Time magazine naming him "TV's first black superstar." The jumpsuit is in good vintage condition and is accompanied by a certificate of authenticity from the costume house.
