Duenna (Anna Demetrio)
Medieval Period Dress
Item # D0217
This medieval style dress was worn by the character "Duenna, Governess of the Princess of Navarre", portrayed by actress Anna Demetrio in Cecil B. DeMille’s 1935 motion picture classic “The Crusades” starring Henry Wilcoxon and Loretta Young. Miss Demetrio appears wearing the garment during the scene where she accompanies her young charge to view the arrival of Richard, King of England who makes a negative impression on her due to his inappropriate behavior. The dark blue and red wool dress with green trim at the hemline is complete with original rust underskirt and is in good screen worn condition with minor evidence of age. This garment is complete with the original costumer’s label sewn inside with the name “Demetrio” handwritten in slightly faded ink and was acquired directly from Paramount Studios. Accompanied by a letter of authenticity. “The Crusades” was nominated for an Oscar in 1936 for Best Cinematography.
