This garment was made for the character “Jeb Rand” portrayed by actor Robert Mitchum in the 1947 feature film “Pursued”. This studio made vintage brown wool basket weave coat has notch lapels, four button closure, slit breast pocket, two patch pockets, and textured brown lining. Internal “Warner Bros” studio label with “Prod. 353 R. Mitchum 4J” handwritten in black ink, with “DOUBLES 1 C 2134” stamped. The internal right sleeve lining is torn slightly at the shoulder.
This garment was designed by Leah Rhodes and custom made for Mr. Mitchum. The production number 353 matches this production, but was ultimately not is not seen in the final version of the film.
“Pursued” is a film noir set in the old west, following “Jeb Rand” (Robert Mitchum), an orphan traumatized by the massacre of his family.
This garment is in good vintage condition, and is accompanied by a letter of authenticity from the costume house.
