| This costume was worn by the character “Scott Thorson” played by actor Matt Damon in the 2013 award-winning HBO movie “Behind the Candelabra.” The costume consists of a red, black and silver vintage silk dress shirt by “atb” and “Levi” denim jeans. Each garment has the original costumers HOLD tag attached.
Mr. Damon can be seen wearing the shirt during the scene leading up to the end of the relationship between Liberace and Scott. Scott is seen storming into the house wearing the shirt, confronting Liberace in front of his manager Seymour Heller, played by Dan Aykroyd. The camera cuts to Scott, still in the shirt, stealing a gold bracelet from Liberace’s safe to pay for his drug addiction. Scott then heads to Los Angeles and we see him deep within a drug binge while panicking about the state of his relationship with the performer.
The denim jeans that accompany the shirt are seen in a few different scenes throughout the film. Most notably, the jeans are seen during Scott’s first visit to Liberace’s home. There is a long visit with the performer, a brunch and a home tour where the pants are very visible.
“Behind the Candelabra” starring Michael Douglas, Matt Damon, Scott Bakula, Rob Lowe and Debbie Reynolds follows the last ten years of the life of Liberace and the secret affair he had with Scott Thorson. The film, directed by Academy-award winner Steven Soderbergh, is based on Thorson’s memoir, Behind the Candelabra: My Life with Liberace (1988). The film garnered 15 Emmy nominations and went on to win 11 including “Outstanding Miniseries or Movie,” “Outstanding Director,” Outstanding Costumes for a Movie or Miniseries,” and “Best Actor” for Michael Douglas.
