THE GREATEST SHOW ON EARTH Angel (Gloria Grahame)

This “Web-sitter” circus jumpsuit was worn by the character “Angel,” portrayed by actress Gloria Grahame, in the 1952 motion picture “The Greatest Show On Earth.” The long sleeve jumpsuit with integrated belt is constructed of heavy purple cotton and has snap closures down the front and on the cuffs. The garment was custom made by Brooks Costume Company and has the original tailoring label sewn inside with “Websitter” and “Gloria Graham (sic)” clearly typed.

Ms. Grahame wore the garment in numerous scenes throughout the film while performing her duties as a circus “Web-sitter” in control of the aerialists net. Notable scenes include when “The Great Sebastian” (Cornel Wilde) falls from the trapeze, and later when she and other members of the circus crew gather around him in the doctor’s tent.

“The Greatest Show On Earth” was directed by Cecil B. DeMille and featured an all-star cast including Charlton Heston, Jimmy Stewart, Dorothy Lamour, and Betty Hutton. The film won two Academy Awards for Best Picture and Best Writing, and received three additional nominations including Best Costume Design to Edith Head for her outstanding work on the production.

The garment is in excellent vintage screen worn condition and is accompanied by a letter of authenticity. Presented by The Golden Closet, your premier source for iconic screen used wardrobe, props, and collectible music entertainment memorabilia.
