This complete superhero costume was worn by the character “Clark Kent” AKA “Superman” portrayed by actor Dean Cain in the popular television series “Lois and Clark: The New Adventures of Superman” which ran from 1993-1997 and also starred Teri Hatcher as “Lois Lane”.
The trademark “Superman” outfit is perhaps one of the most iconic and immediately recognizable costumes of all time. The signature wardrobe was custom tailored specifically to Dean Cain’s measurements, and pieces of the costume were utilized together on a number of different episodes throughout the series. The outfit consists of:
• a blue Lycra bodysuit with “S-Shield logo on the breast
• a pair of red briefs with yellow Lycra covered belt
• a red ankle length cape with yellow “S-Shield” patch
• a pair of red patent leather boots by Silvia’s Costumes of Los Angeles.
The cape attaches inside the collar with large snaps and an internal chest strap. The numbers “94-95” are handwritten in black ink under the neck flap. The briefs have “95-96, New”, and both the bodysuit and boots have “96-97” written in the interior. These numbers refer to the season in which each piece was made as previous versions wore out or multiples were needed over the course of filming.
“Lois and Clark” garnered numerous awards and nominations throughout its four-year run, including a 1995 Emmy nomination for Outstanding Individual Achievement in Costuming for a Series to the men’s costume supervisor on the show.
