These garments were worn by the character “Charlie Townsend” portrayed by actor Liev Schreiber in the 2006 film “The Painted Veil”, co-starring Naomi Watts, and Edward Norton. This 1920's three-piece tan suit with faint blue and brown pinstripes consists of a jacket with peak lapel, three-button closure, slash breast pocket, two lower flap pockets, vest with six- button closure, two slash breast pockets and two lower slash pockets, pants with button fly and two front slash pockets, light blue button down collarless shirt and two cream and white handkerchiefs. Attached are two costume production hold tags ("Charlie, D2 Sc30, Make" and "Charlie D1. Sc1.") handwritten in blue ink.
Mr. Schreiber wears this costume in two pivotal scenes in the film, when Charlie and Kitty (Naomi Watts) are almost discovered in bed together having an affair and when Charlie discusses the recent shooting of a local laborer during a construction project with his fellow English expatriates. Kitty pulls him from the meeting to tell him that her husband “Walter” (Edward Norton) knows about their affair and will only grant her a peaceable divorce if Charlie agrees to leave his wife and marry Kitty.
