This distinctive gray beret was worn by the character “Julie Beck,” portrayed by legendary actress Lauren Bacall, in the 1958 motion picture, “The Gift of Love.” The exterior of the beret has a unique wrinkled fold texture adorned with two steel hatpins with matching self-covered cloth heads. The interior has a mesh band sewn inside and is complete with the original 20th Century Fox label with the name “Lauren Bacall” and “A – 801 -09” clearly written in black ink.

Ms. Bacall wore this beret in the cocktail lounge scene when Julie converses with William Beck (Robert Stack). An image of this scene was also used in a promotional still for the film.

“The Gift of Love” was a remake of the 1946 motion picture, “Sentimental Journey,” starring John Payne and Maureen O’ Hara. It features an outstanding performance by Bacall as a loving wife and mother who hopes the bond of love forged between her husband and their adopted daughter will bring them both comfort in the event of her death due to a deteriorating heart condition.

The beret is in very good screen worn condition and is accompanied by a letter of authenticity from the costume house. Presented by The Golden Closet, your premier source for iconic screen used wardrobe, props, and music entertainment memorabilia.
