This outfit was worn by the character “Ray Charles” portrayed by the Academy Award-winning actor Jamie Foxx in “Ray”. This 3 piece 1950’s outfit consists of a sport coat, button down shirt, and black pants. The spotted charcoal grey sport coat was tailor made by David A. Hawkins and has his label sewn inside the left breast pocket. The light pink dress shirt was made by Venice Custom Shirt Makers and has the label sewn inside the collar with the #3 hand written and also includes a smaller tag with “Mar.03” embroidered. The pair of black slacks is an original 1950’s pant and has the Buccaneer Slacks label sewn inside the pant. The sport coat and shirt were custom made for Jamie Foxx for use on the film.
The outfit can be viewed in the scene where Ray and “Margie”(Regina King) are caught kissing while walking down the hall together by his current girlfriend Marry Ann Fischer (Aunjanue Ellis). The shirt was also worn in the scene where Ray notifies his first record label that he is going to leave. The costume is in excellent screen used condition and is accompanied by a certificate of authenticity from the costume house.
“Ray” received multiple wins and nominations at the 2005 Academy Awards. Among these, Mr. Foxx received an Oscar for Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role, and Ms. Sharen Davis received an Oscar nomination for Best Achievement in Costume Design for her outstanding work on the film.
