Roman Soldier (Background Actor)
Helmet with Plume
Item # P01118
This helmet was worn by a background Roman soldier in the Oscar winning 2000 epic “Gladiator”. The helmet consists of a plastic hard shell, black and natural plume, brown leather ties, and an interior lined with padding.
In the beginning of the film, Maximus (Russell Crowe) leads the III Felix Legion of the Roman army to a conclusive victory against Germanic Barbarians at Vindobona, bringing an end to the war on the Roman frontier, thus earning the admiration of Emperor Marcus Aurelius (Richard Harris). The helmet is seen worn amongst several of the roman soldiers during the opening sequence as Maximus prepares his army for battle. The black and natural plume is traditionally a decoration, signifying the officer’s importance in rank.
Directed by Ridley Scott, the film stars Russell Crowe, Joaquin Phoenix, and Richard Harris. Russell Crowe won the 2001 Academy Award for Best Actor for his role in “Gladiator”, and the film also won the Academy awards for Best Picture, Best Costume Design, Best Effects and Best Sound. Accompanied by a letter of Authenticity.
