This house dress was worn by “Edith Bunker” portrayed by actress Jean Stapleton in the television series “All in the Family”. This pink long-sleeve dress with a green and yellow floral print has an oversized collar with bow, zip front closure, and green two-button cuff. The garment was custom made for Stapleton and has an internal “The Wardrobe Wing, Hollywood California” label with “Daisy C.H” handwritten in black ink. Attached is a costume garment tag with, “Pink print long sleeve zip front housedress w/ties 0019725, B4016t” handwritten in black ink.
Ms. Stapleton wears this garment in Season 6 Episode 13 “Gloria is Nervous” during a baby shower for Edith’s daughter “Gloria” (Sally Struthers). “Mike” (Rob Reiner), disrupts the shower by blustering in, panicked that Gloria might be going into labor. Ms. Stapleton also wears the dress in Season 6 Episode 21 “Love by Appointment”, during which “Edith” helps “Gloria” get the spice back into her marriage after the baby.
All in the Family was an American sitcom broadcasted on CBS from 1971 through 1979. The series revolved around the life of a working class man and his family, and was considered revolutionary for its time, discussing topics such as racism, homosexuality, and women’s liberation. The series ran for 5 consecutive years as the top television series in the United States, and won 22 Primetime Emmy’s and 8 golden globes. All in the Family ran for 8 seasons with a total 189 episodes.
This item is in excellent screen worn condition and is accompanied by a letter of authenticity from the costume house.
