This costume was worn by the character “Effie White” portrayed by actress Jennifer Hudson in the 2006 motion picture “Dreamgirls”, starring Jamie Foxx, Eddie Murphy, and Beyonce Knowles. This outfit consists of a black long sleeve scoop neck sweater with fabric flowers, beaded hemline, hot pink skirt with black flower pattern and silver sequins, silver ID bracelet, and pair of hibiscus flower earrings. Attached are two costume production hold tags with “Dreamgirls, character Effie #6, actor Jennifer Hudson, change 9, day D9, scenes 45, description I/ Curtis’s Car dealership recording ‘Cadillac Car’” written in black ink on one side of both tags and on one of the tag’s back side is “Change 9 Ears: black shell hibiscus w/ wire & black bead stamins (sic) clip. Sweater: Black scoop boat neck fabric flowers & organza leaves along the neckline w/ beading (J Macro size L) *hem out over skirt. Skirt: Hot pink cotton. Black retro Mexican floral & ric rac pattern. Black border @ hem. Stockings: Haynes ‘Gentle Brown’ EF Foundation: Black ‘Nancy Ganz’ Shoes: Black fabric tapestry w/ black bow at side of round toe front (Nine West) Bracelet: silver chain link w/ fat square disc charm (L) wrist” written in fine black ink.
Ms. Hudson wears this costume while recording “Cadillac Car” inside Curtis’s (Jamie Foxx) studio in his Detroit car dealership. “Dreamgirls” is a musical, drama about a trio of black female soul singers cross over to the pop charts in the early 1960s, facing their own personal struggles along the way. Jennifer Hudson won an Oscar for Best Supporting Actress; this film was also nominated for 8 Academy Awards including Best Achievement in Costume Design.
