This navy blue bathrobe was worn by “George Jefferson” portrayed by Sherman Hemsley in the television series “The Jeffersons”. This garment in constructed of a navy blue polyester material with “GJ” embroidered on the left breast, silver braided trim, and a selfbelt. The embroidery was added for use in a subsequent episode.

Mr. Hemsley wore this robe in “What Makes Sammy Run” (Season 10 Episode 11) when Sammy Davis Jr. moves into the apartment building trying to lay low and avoid the press. A tabloid reporter confronts Louise and offers her $2000.00 if she can locate Sammy’s apartment.

The Jefferson’s was an American sitcom broadcasted by CBS from 1975 through 1985. A spin-off of from the sitcom “All in the Family”, The Jefferson’s “moved on up” to the upper east side of Manhattan and began living as an affluent black family. The series ran for 11 seasons with a total 253 episodes, making The Jefferson’s one of the longest running sitcoms in US history. Also noted for its controversial topics including racism, suicide, and gun control, which was taboo for syndicated television in the 1970’s. The show was nominated for 13 Emmy awards, and actress Isabel Sanford who played Louise, won Best Actress in 1981. This item is in good screen worn condition and is accompanied by a letter of authenticity from the Costume Designer. A print of the image is included with the sale.
