This shirt was worn by the character “Penny Lane” portrayed by actress Kate Hudson in the Academy Award winning film “Almost Famous”, also starring Patrick Fugit and Billy Crudup. This vintage 1960’s pin tucked shirt is constructed of blue chiffon material with a white square pattern. The shoulders of the garment shows signs of dry rot and deterioration due to use on subsequent productions.

Ms. Hudson wore this shirt while on the tour bus travelling with the band “Stillwater” and the young journalist “William Miller” (Patrick Fugit). Penny Lane takes a shine to William and while she is casual and open with him, he is trying to be a professional for Rolling Stone magazine. Their conversation leads to “Russell” (Billy Crudup) and how she sees him as the rising star of the band. William is clearly interested in Penny, and is eager to know her real name.

“Almost Famous” was a semi-autobiographical film based on writer/director Cameron Crowe’s experiences writing for music publications as a youth. The film earned him an Academy Award for Best Screenplay Written Directly for the Screen in 2001. The movie featured an outstanding performance by newcomer William Fugit, and both Kate Hudson and Frances McDormand received Oscar nominations for Best Supporting Actress for their work on the film. Costume designer Betsy Heimann received an award for Excellence in Costume Design for Film (Period/Fantasy). The garment is in good vintage condition and is accompanied by a letter of authenticity from the costume house.
