This ensemble was worn by “Virgil Tanner” portrayed by actor Ron Howard in the 1970 feature film “The Wild Country”. The marled brown wool jacket with notched lapel, breast pocket, two flap pockets, three button closure, belted back, has a matching vest with six button closure, and two slant pockets. Internal “Western Costume Co.” labels with “2211-1 Ronny Howard #1 35 ˝ 17” typed in black ink. Vest’s shoulders are faded due to age. Both garments were altered for use in a subsequent production. The jacket was taken in at the center seem, the sleeves and hemline shortened.
The vest was taken in at the center seam and multiple gussets added to the pocket shortening the width of each opening. Eastern Costume’s master tailor, Guilberto Guzman, let out the alterations restoring the garment back to its original size. Both garments were worn through the film and were acquired direct from Western Costume Company. Before and after images of the garment are available upon request. The garments are in excellent condition and are accompanied by a certificate of authenticity.
