This vintage western shirt was worn by the character “The Virginian” portrayed by James Drury in the cowboy classic “The Virginian”, 1962-1971. The camel linen pullover shirt has a four-button front, vertical front yolk, two large chest pockets, and a three-button crotch strap. On each side of the shirt, starting underneath the arms is a five-button detail with a left side zip closure. Internal Western Costume bias label , “No. 2086-2 Name James Drury” and original studio dry cleaning tag.

James Drury wore this shirt in Season 5 Episode 9 “Dead-Eye Dick” to a dance where he meets “Alice Rawlings” (played by Marjorie Hammond) who quickly develops a crush on him. He takes the young girl home after the dance and then he can be seen still wearing the shirt as he is home talking with his friend “Trampas” (played by Doug McClure).

“The Virginian” was an immensely successful series running for a total of 249 episodes from 1962 to 1971. Airing for nine seasons, it is the third longest running western, behind Bonanza and Gunsmoke. And, it was the first western television program to run for 90-minutes an episode.

The costume is in good vintage screen worn condition and is accompanied by a letter of authenticity.
