Mr. Lowe can be seen wearing the swimsuit during the scene where his character, Dr. Jack Startz, and Scott Thorson, played by Matt Damon, are sitting poolside sipping on martinis. This occurs briefly after Dr. Startz begins Scott on the “California diet” which leads to Scott’s eventual drug addiction and the subsequent breakup of his relationship with Liberace.
“Behind the Candelabra” starring Michael Douglas, Matt Damon, Scott Bakula, Rob Lowe and Debbie Reynolds follows the last ten years of the life of Liberace and the secret affair he had with Scott Thorson. The film, directed by Academy-award winner Steven Soderbergh, is based on Thorson’s memoir, Behind the Candelabra: My Life with Liberace (1988). The film garnered 15 Emmy nominations and went on to win 11 including “Outstanding Miniseries or Movie,” “Outstanding Director,” Outstanding Costumes for a Movie or Miniseries,” and “Best Actor” for Michael Douglas.
