This vintage coat was worn by the character "Big Tess," portrayed by actress Lucile Gleason, in the classic 1936 motion picture, "Klondike Annie." The 1800's style hip length coat with mutton sleeves and matching velvet frog closures on the front is constructed of green silk velvet with fur collar and cuffs. The interior of the garment has the original Paramount label sewn inside.

Ms. Gleason wore this coat during the scene where she first enters the Alaskan Settlement House to find her young protege "Rose Carleton" (Mae West) masquerading as a nun. When Tess (Gleason) pulls her aside to ask her what the racket is, Rose assures her she's changed her ways and is strictly on the level, convincing Tess to help her in her new calling.

The garment is in good vintage screen worn condition with some signs of distress and repairs on the velvet and fur due to age and use. The original frog closure buttons were repositioned for later use by another actress in a subsequent production. Presented by The Golden Closet, your premier source for iconic screen used wardrobe, props, and music entertainment memorabilia.
