This vintage sundress was worn by the character “Tara Gregson / Alice” portrayed by actress Toni Collette in Showtime’s award winning series “United States of Tara”. The pink and white gingham dress with red floral pattern is constructed of lightweight cotton and features a sleeveless crossover bodice and full skirt.
The actress wore the garment notably in Alice’s debut episode “Aftermath” (Season 1, Episode 2). In the episode, Tara finds herself having difficulty talking to her daughter about sex and becomes frustrated that her son prefers his father to deal with a school related problem rather then her. Her distress in dealing with the situation results in the emergence of her “alter” (ego) Alice, a perfect Betty Crocker 1950’s housewife personality who decides to take matters into her own hands.
“The United States of Tara” has proven to be a breakout role for Australian born actress Toni Collette, who was previously nominated for an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for her performance in “The Sixth Sense”. She received an Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy for the show’s first season in 2009, and later won a Golden Globe Award for Best Performance by an Actress in a Television Series (Musical/Comedy) in 2010.
The garment is in good vintage screen worn condition and is accompanied by a letter of authenticity from the costume house that provided for use on the production.
