This wrestler’s costume was worn by a stunt actor in the classic television show “Laverne and Shirley”, which ran from 1976-1983. The red polyester unitard has a purple tulle tutu and trimmed shoulder caps, and pink rick-rack trim around the collar. A small section of lime green tulle is pinned at the side of the tutu. Slight staining is present on the unitard and bloomers.
The stunt actor wore the costume in “Tag Team Wrestling” (Season 3, Episode 2) during the sequence where Shirley and her best friend “Laverne DeFazio” (portrayed by Penny Marshall) face off against two professional female wrestlers in the ring with hilarious results. Stunt actors were often used in scenes where the actors may become harmed in completing a highly physical scene.
“Laverne and Shirley” was nominated for four Golden Globes over the course of its seven-year run, and costume designer Al Lehman received an Emmy Award nomination for Outstanding Costume Design For a Series in 1979.
The costume is in good vintage screen worn condition and is accompanied by a letter of authenticity.
