This 1930’s dress was worn by the character “Eva Peron” portrayed by actress Madonna in the 1996 motion picture “Evita”. The purple crepe mid length dress with satin bodice has a jewel neckline, front tucks, matching neck bow and scalloped hem with satin appliqué. The matching hip length open-front jacket has a continuous scalloped edge and elbow length sleeves, both with satin appliqué.

The actress wore the outfit onscreen during the musical number “Goodnight and Thank You” where Eva dumps her photographer lover for Emilio, a publisher. Emilio and Eva walk down a hall lined with her posters past the unhappy photographer, and into a car on the street parked beside a newsstand filled with magazines bearing Eva’s image. The garment is in very good screen worn condition and is accompanied by a letter of authenticity from the costume house.

“Evita” won an Academy Award in 1997 for Best Music, Original Song for the song “You Must Love Me”.
