This cowboy hat was worn by the character “Sheriff Earl Dodd,” portrayed by actor Burt Reynolds, in the 1982 musical comedy, “The Best Little Whorehouse In Texas.” The hat was custom made for the actor’s use and is constructed of grey rabbit felt with narrow leather band embossed with acorn and leaf pattern. The interior of the hat has the actor’s initials “B.R.” and “# 1” (indicating that this was his primary “Hero” hat used during filming).

This was Sheriff Dodd’s signature cowboy hat worn throughout the film as he and local madam “Mona Stangley” (Dolly Parton) deal with the attempts of a zealous TV evangelist to close down her establishment. The actor also wore the hat in numerous posters and promotional images and in the official trailer for the film.

“The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas” was adapted from the award winning Broadway musical based on the book by Larry L. King. The film featured an all-star cast including Jim Nabors, Dom Deluise, and a Oscar nominated performance by Charles Durning.

The hat is in good screen used condition with some minor moth damage that occurred during storage and is accompanied by a letter of authenticity. Presented by The Golden Closet, your premier source for iconic screen used wardrobe, props, and music entertainment memorabilia.
