This vintage style catcher’s mitt was used by the Philadelphia Phillies catcher in the 1984 motion picture "The Natural", starring Robert Redford. This leather right-handed catcher's mitt was custom made for the production and has an adjustable wrist strap, webbing, leather-laced outer seam with grommets. The outer seam stitching has been poorly mended and the stitching on the pinky and index finger is detached from use on subsequent productions.

The stitching on the pinky finger, grommets, webbing and lighter suede inset, and wear on the palm are screen match to the scene where the Philadelphia Phillies and the Knights play against each other. During the game “Roy Hobbes” (Robert Redford) reveals his abilities to the MLB world for the first time, hitting a ball so hard it knocks the cover off of the ball.

The baseball was custom made for the production and used by principle characters while filming and batting practice. The ball is an exact replica of the Spalding Baseball manufactured during 1932 -1933. The balls is nine inches in diameter, weighs five ounces with a cushion cork center, off white leather exterior with red and blue stitching. The period correct markings and logos are stamped in blue ink on the exterior; "Official National League Reg U.S Pat Off", cushioned cork center, IN. 5 oz, and Spalding No 1.

“The Natural” starring Robert Redford, Robert Duvall, Glenn Close, Kim Basinger, Wilford Brimley, and Robert Prosky, was nominated for four Academy Awards. It stands as one of the most beloved sports movies of all time. These items are in good screen used condition, and are accompanied by a letter of authenticity from the prop house.
