This jacket was worn by the character “Captain Charles S. Chinnough” portrayed by John Payne in the 1950 film “Captain China”. The navy blue double breasted wool jacket has notched lapels, two slit pockets, and is lined in burgundy satin. Internal yellow / red Western Costume Label “3478-1-1, J. Payne, Chest 44” faintly hand written. The original gold buttons on the jacket have been replaced for use in a subsequent production.
Mr. Payne wears this jacket while on board a ship heading to Manila, where he finds himself competing with his former first mate “Brendensen” (Jeffrey Lynn) for the love of “Kim Mitchell” (Gail Russell).
This garment is in excellent vintage condition, and is accompanied by a letter of authenticity from the costume house.
