This western style bib front shirt was worn by legendary performer Michael Jackson during a recording session for the song “Eaten Alive” with Diana Ross. Michael Jackson co-wrote and produced the R&B top ten hit and sang back up for Ross along with Barry Gibb of the Bee Gees. “Eaten Alive” was the top ten title track of Ms. Ross’s 1985 album which was released by RCA. Michael can be seen wearing the shirt in a photograph along side Diana Ross and Barry Gibb recording the song.
The bright aqua blue shirt is made of a fine light wool with long sleeves, wide collar, and Indian-head buttons down each side of the bib and on the sleeve cuffs. Each shoulder has an epaulet made of black felt embellished with grey stitching, silver beads, and double silver horseshoes with rhinestones. There is some minor moth damage to the interior of the back collar, and some small stains to the front of the shirt. The shirt was custom tailored for Mr. Jackson by Western Costume Company and is complete with the original label sewn inside with the name “Michael Jackson” clearly typed.
This shirt is an early example of a style that would become one of Mr. Jackson's signature looks from the mid to late eighties and will make an impressive addition to any collection of high profile music memorabilia.
