This tennis dress designed by Edith Head for Elizabeth Taylor as “Angela Vickers” in the 1951 motion picture “A Place in the Sun”. The dress was ultimately not worn by Taylor and was worn by one of Angela’s girlfriends at the summer home. The vintage ivory sleeveless tennis dress with v-neck, collar and pleated skirt with button back closure is in good screen used condition. The original Paramount label is sewn into the interior waistband of the dress with “Elizabeth Taylor” handwritten in slightly faded ink.

This film is a romantic drama loosely based on the novel “An American Tragedy” by Theodore Dreiser (also adapted into the play An American Tragedy). It tells a story of a young working-class man who is entangled with two women, “Alice” (Shelley Winters), who works in his uncle’s factory, and “Angela” (Elizabeth Taylor), a beautiful socialite.

This garment is in good condition and is accompanied by a letter of authenticity from the costume house.
