This racing suit was worn by the character "Wendell Scott," portrayed by legendary actor and comedian Richard Pryor, in the 1977 motion picture, "Greased Lightning." The zip front jumpsuit made by Racecar is constructed of thick white cotton with cream knit cuffs and has blue side stripes on the sleeves and sides of the legs. The zipper was replaced and the original patches were removed for use on a subsequent production. Several of the original patch outlines are still clearly visible.

Mr. Pryor wore the suit at the climactic conclusion of the film when Wendell returns to the track after a year of recovering from an automobile accident. Wendell is re-united with his old flame "Mary Jones" (Pam Grier), and then competes against his old rival "Beau Welles" (Earl Hindman) and wins the race.

"Greased Lightning" was based on the true-life story of Wendell Scott, the first African American stock car racing champion. The film was Pryor's follow up to 1976's "Silver Streak" and paired him with co-star Cleavon Little, who had previously worked with Pryor on "Blazing Saddles."

The garment is in vintage condition with minor distress from its use in the action sequences. Accompanied by a letter of authenticity from the costume house. Presented by The Golden Closet, your premier source for iconic screen used wardrobe, props, and music entertainment memorabilia.
