This period style military coat was worn by the character "Col. Francis Marion," portrayed by actor Leslie Nielsen, in the Walt Disney Wonderful World of Color television series The Swamp Fox, which ran from 1959 1961. The American Revolutionary cutaway tailcoat with brass buttons is constructed of navy wool with Ecru wool collar, cuffs, and tail lining. The interior of the garment has the original Western Costume Company label sewn inside with the name Leslie Nielsen typed in slightly faded ink.

Mr. Nielsen wore the coat in numerous scenes of the first episode, "The Birth of the Swamp Fox," which aired on Oct. 23, 1959. In the episode, Col. Marion fights to free South Carolina from British occupation during the American Revolution. After being forced into hiding in the swamps around Snow Island, Marion is dubbed The Swamp Fox by the leader of the British Dragoons, Col. Tarleton (John Sutton).

The garment is in good vintage screen used condition with minor evidence of distress due to wear and use on subsequent productions. Presented by The Golden Closet, your premier source for iconic screen used wardrobe, props, and music entertainment memorabilia.
