This period jacket was worn by the character “Monroe Stahr,” portrayed by legendary actor Robert De Niro, in the 1976 motion picture, “The Last Tycoon.” The double-breasted jacket with faint white pin striping is constructed of navy blue wool and is complete with the original Western Costume Company label sewn inside. The interior label has the name “Robert De Nero” (sic) clearly typed.

Mr. De Niro wore this garment in numerous pivotal scenes near the end of the film when Monroe meets with Mr. Brimmer (Jack Nicholson), a socialist labor organizer from the East Coast, who has been causing trouble for the studios by encouraging the writers to fight for better contract terms and rights.

“The Last Tycoon” was based on literary giant F. Scott Fitzgerald’s unfinished novel of the same name, and was based on the true-life story of MGM producer and executive Irving Thalberg. The film was the last feature directed by legendary director, Elia Kazan, and was nominated for an Academy Award in 1977. Featuring an all-star cast of Tony Curtis, Donald Pleasance, Ray Milland, Dana Andrews, David Carradine, and Anjelica Huston, it is the only live action film in existence to feature simultaneous performances with De Niro and Nicholson, making this a truly rare historical artifact used in scenes from the only onscreen pairing of these two film legends.

The jacket is in good vintage condition and is accompanied by a letter of authenticity from the costume house. Presented by The Golden Closet, your premier source for iconic screen used wardrobe, props, and music entertainment memorabilia.
