This shirt was worn by the character "Wendell Scott," portrayed by legendary actor/comedian Richard Pryor, in the 1977 motion picture, "Greased Lightning." The long sleeve military shirt with flap pockets is constructed of tan cotton and has a "Regulation Style Military Shirt" label in the collar with the name "R. Baxley" handwritten below indicating its probable use in a separate production. The original costumer's tag is attached with the actor name "Richard Pryor," character name "Wendell Scott," and assorted change and scene information handwritten in black ink. The garment has been professionally restored with the patches and insignia as seen in the film.

Mr. Pryor wore the shirt in the beginning of the film when Wendell arrives back in his hometown after serving in the Army. His family throws him a "Welcome Home" party where he is reunited with his old friend "Peewee" (Cleavon Little) and first meets his true love "Mary Jones" (Pam Grier).

"Greased Lightning" was based on the true-life story of Wendell Scott, the first African American stock car racing champion. The film was Pryor's follow up to 1976's "Silver Streak" and paired him with co-star Cleavon Little, who had previously worked with Pryor on "Blazing Saddles."

The garment is in good vintage condition and is accompanied by a letter of authenticity. Presented by The Golden Closet, your premier source for iconic screen used wardrobe, props, and music entertainment memorabilia.
