This 9MM SIG-Sauer 228 pistol was used by the character “Frank Horrigan” portrayed by legendary actor Clint Eastwood in the 1993 Wolfgang Peterson film “In The Line Of Fire” starring John Malkovich and Rene Russo. Mr. Eastwood used this weapon in several scenes from the film, which chronicles the story of Secret Service Agent Horrigan’s attempts to foil an assassination attempt on the President’s life by a former CIA assassin calling himself “Booth” (portrayed by Malkovich).
Mr. Eastwood can also be seen holding a SIG-Sauer 228 on some of the early promotional posters for the film and also on the cover of the recent Blu-Ray re-release. “In The Line Of Fire” was nominated for several Oscars in 1994, including one for John Malkovich’s memorable portrayal of “Mitch Leary” AKA “Booth”.
This item was purchased directly from Ellis Mercantile when the prop company went out of business in 2000 and is accompanied by a copy of the rental records confirming its use on the production and a certificate of authenticity from Ellis confirming its specific use by Eastwood. The item was also possibly used by other Secret Service characters in separate scenes from the film, as the Sig Sauer P228 was the standard issue firearm used by other Secret Service characters in the movie.
