This unique Mardi Gras costume was worn by a female background character portrayed by actress Arlyne Varden in the 1941 motion picture music “Louisiana Purchase” starring Bob Hope, Vera Zorina, and Dona Drake. The blue green faille bolero length tailcoat has long sleeves, puffed shoulders and cathedral length split tails. The front of the coat is decorated with elaborate gold rope and medallion appliqué.

Ms. Varden wore the garment on a moving Mardi Gras style float along with other characters during an extensive parade themed musical number and the interior of the garment is complete with the original Paramount Pictures label inside with the name “Varden” handwritten in slightly faded ink. The wardrobe is in very good condition and is accompanied by a letter of authenticity. Presented by The Golden Closet, your premiere source for screen used wardrobe, props, and music entertainment memorabilia.
