This navy blue vintage floor length gown with exposed midriff was worn by the character Deena Jones portrayed by singer Beyonce Knowles in the 2006 motion picture adaptation of the award winning Broadway musical “Dreamgirls” starring Jamie Foxx and Eddie Murphy. Ms. Knowles can be seen wearing the garment during a pivotal scene in the film when news of James “Thunder” Early’s (Murphy) fatal heroin overdose first reaches the offices of Rainbow Records.
The garment was acquired directly from the costume house that supplied the dress to the production and is complete with the original costumer’s hold tag listing character name and assorted production information. “Dreamgirls” won several Oscars in 2007, including Best Achievement in Costume Design for Sharen Davis’s work on the film. The garment is in good screen worn condition and is accompanied by a letter of authenticity from the costume house.
