This is an original costume sketch of the character “Vicki Lester/Esther Blodgett” portrayed by legendary actress Judy Garland that was created for the 1954 motion picture “A Star Is Born”. The hand painted image depicts Vicki/Esther wearing a green blouse, matching button front sweater, yellow scarf around the neck, gray calf length skirt, black heels, and a black clutch in her left hand. The top of the page has pencil inscription reading “Judy Garland – A Star Is Born, Scene 56”. The sheet is in good condition with some natural discoloration and wear due to age. The drawing was made by either Jean Louis or Mary Ann Nyberg, the two costume designers who worked on the production.
“A Star Is Born” was nominated for six Oscars in 1955 and Ms. Garland received a Golden Globe Award for Best Motion Picture Actress in a Musical/Comedy for her outstanding performance in the film. This amazing artifact from one of Ms. Garland’s most memorable roles will make an impressive addition to any collection of studio production art and is accompanied by a letter of authenticity.
