This WWII era U.S. Army Air Corps Pilot Summer Uniform was worn by the character “Capt. Rafe McCawley” portrayed by actor Ben Affleck in the 2001 Jerry Bruckheimer production “Pearl Harbor”. The outfit consists of a khaki long sleeve shirt with black tie and matching khaki pants. The shirt was custom made for Mr. Affleck’s use in the film by renowned Hollywood shirt makers Anto of Beverly Hills and is complete with the original tailoring label sewn inside with the actor’s initials “B.A.” and the production date “March, 2000”. The interior of the pants have the original Motion Picture Costume Company label sewn inside with the actor’s name and movie title clearly typed, and has character name “Rafe” handwritten.
Mr. Affleck wore the shirt in numerous scenes throughout the picture. The pants were hand distressed by costumers for use in the subsequent sequence when Rafe’s plane is shot down by the Japanese and he and his fellow airmen engage in a desperate firefight with Japanese soldiers that results in the death of his lifelong friend “Danny Walker” (Hartnett).
This wardrobe was acquired directly from the costume house that provided it to the production and is accompanied by a letter of authenticity.
“Pearl Harbor” won an Oscar for Best Sound Editing in 2002 and received numerous other nominations including Best Visual Effects, Best Music, Original Song, and Best Sound. The film featured an all-star cast including Josh Hartnett, Kate Beckinsale, Cuba Gooding Jr., Alec Baldwin, and Jon Voight as President Franklin D. Roosevelt.
