This professional costume rendering was made by legendary designer William Travilla for the 1981 televised special “Evita Peron” starring Faye Dunaway in the title role. The full color drawing on illustration board measures 20” X 15” inches and depicts original production wardrobe designed by Travilla for use by the character “Renata Riguel” portrayed by actress Rita Moreno. The costume sketch is of a reddish orange two-piece skirt suit with black fur trim, black gloves, and matching black fur hat. The upper right of the board has the name “Renata #3” with Travilla’s handwritten signature in the lower right beneath the drawing.

William Travilla (1920 – 1999) was an American fashion designer who achieved legendary status for his work in theatre, film, and television. He won an Academy Award in 1950 for his work on “Adventures of Don Juan” starring Errol Flynn, won two Emmys in the 80’s for his work on the television productions “Dallas” and “The Scarlett O’ Hara War”, as well as receiving numerous other awards and nominations over the course of his extensive career. He is perhaps best known for the numerous designs he made for actress and personal friend Marilyn Monroe, including one of the most iconic wardrobe items in film history: the snow white cocktail dress she wore in the subway grate street scene of “The Seven Year Itch”.

“Evita Peron” won a Primetime Emmy in 1981. Mr. Travilla also received a nomination for “Outstanding Costume Design for a Special” for his work on the production. The rendering is in very good condition and is accompanied by a letter of authenticity.
